HOW DOES HSC & COMPANY PROVIDE SUPPORT ON LEGAL, ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL ADVICE MATTERS?

Our client’s needs are paramount, so we are also happy to work with our client’s preferred advisors as requested.
 
WHICH SOCIAL CAUSE AREAS DOES HSC & COMPANY ADVISE CLIENTS ON?
We advise clients on social investments in organisations and tailored programs linked to the following social cause areas: arts and culture, education, environment, health, indigenous, rural and regional, welfare and youth. In recommending not-for-profit organisations to clients, we visit and examine key criteria, including leadership dynamics, social outcomes measurement, operational focus and strategic management.
 
DOES HSC & COMPANY PROVIDE ADVICE TO NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANISATIONS?
No. We only provide advice to families, corporate businesses and professional service firms. This decision is based on the philosophy that our business can create enduring impact by helping to influence how resources are organised to solve the most pressing social challenges.
 
 
WHY DOES HSC & COMPANY PROVIDE ADMINISTRATION & OPERATIONS SERVICES?
Philanthropic trust and foundation administration can often be an overwhelming task for trustees. We manage these important and necessary tasks on behalf of clients allowing them more time to focus on benefaction.

Operational efficiency is also important. Clients use HSC & Company as their front office to access a full range of operational services that include:

  • Incoming mail management to streamline funding applications and requests
  • Grants management administration (including due diligence research, secretariat function to manage multi- phase application processes and grant acquittals)
  • Preparing and lodging statutory reporting
 
WHY IS INDEPENDENCE VALUED BY HSC & COMPANY?
Maintaining full independence from financial institutions and not-for-profit organisations means we are able to provide objective advice to clients. This tenet also means we do not raise funds or accept unsolicited requests for funding from not-for-profit organisations.
 
WHAT IS HSC & COMPANY’S FEE STRUCTURE?
Our fee structures vary as a result of our work being highly customised. Depending on our engagement, a per diem rate, flat fee, retainer or a percentage of the grants we are managing may be agreed upon.

No commission of any kind is received as payment for HSC & Company services.
 
HOW DO HSC & COMPANY’S CLIENTS LEARN MORE ABOUT PHILANTHROPY?
In addition to direct advice provided as part of an engagement:

  • We host regular, invitation-only private client events which provide clients with the opportunity to share their experiences and engage with philanthropic leaders
  • Clients receive a quarterly brief updating them on emerging trends and events relating to Australian and international philanthropy
  • Clients also receive a monthly email update that highlights relevant news, important research studies and developments in social innovation
 
ONCE WE BECOME CLIENTS OF HSC & COMPANY, WHAT TYPE OF ONGOING SERVICE CAN WE EXPECT?
Each client agreement clearly explains the ongoing service component of our engagement. Clients also gain access to the benefits noted above.
 
HOW DOES HSC & COMPANY STAY INFORMED OF ALL OF THE DEVELOPMENTS IN DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL PHILANTHROPY?
We have formed domestic and international networks to promote and share insights about philanthropy. In addition, we maintain a regular dialogue with senior leaders in the philanthropy, not-for-profit, public and private sectors.
 
WHERE DOES HSC & COMPANY ADVERTISE ITS SERVICES?
We don't advertise. The majority of new business is based on referral.
