First Sector

Refers to all commercial organisations: the ‘business’ sector.

Second Sector
Refers to Local, State and Federal Government as well as all government agencies.

Third Sector
Refers to all ‘not profit’ organisations and agencies. This includes First Sector foundations and trustees, as well as charities with both DGR (deductible gift recipient) and non-DGR status.

Community commitment
An outcome of developing organisational strategy that results in focused priorities requiring the investment in resources that deliver recognisable social impact.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce, their families and the local community and society at large.

Engaged philanthropy
Engaged Philanthropy means giving through harnessing the talents and energies of a broad range of people and organisations to improve the well being of humanity, and the community.

Social inclusion
To be socially included, people must be given the opportunity to:
  • secure a job;
  • access services;
  • connect with family, friends, work, personal interests and local community;
  • deal with personal crisis; and
  • have their voice heard.

Innovation
Innovation refers to a new way of doing something. It may refer to incremental, radical, and revolutionary changes in thinking, products, processes, or organisations.

Non profit organisation (NPO) / non profit
Organisations and agencies dedicated to the provision of charitable and community goods/services. Any ‘profit’ made is retained within the organisation and cannot be distributed to shareholders as wealth.
