Phil Hayes-St Clair - Sydney
Executive Chairman
Phil designed and established HSC & Company.
Phil's entrepreneurial leadership and the expertise of HSC & Company's advisory board has been the driving force behind the firm's growth and reputation as Australia's specialist philanthropy and community investment consultant.
Since 2008 HSC & Company has developed client relationships with Australia’s top businesses and private foundations and helped solve pressing challenges in the fields of corporate community investment and private philanthropy.
Phil has developed two distinct practices at HSC & Company.
The corporate community investment practice the firm brings foresight, knowledge, and a practical approach to helping management make decisions on the design and implementation of authentic corporate community investment strategies. In doing new directions are exposed that match business growth and find the right balance between enhancing reputation and achieving social impact. This unique skill set is leveraged into the private philanthropy practice where expert advice is provided to individuals, families and professional service firms. This includes establishing Private Ancillary Funds and other charitable trusts, providing services in high-quality administration, governance and grant making, and connecting clients with leaders in the social field.
Twice nominated for Australian of the Year for his philanthropic contributions, Phil founded Suncorp’s Ride 4 Research charity bike ride program which delivered over $580 000 in two years for the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. Prior to this Phil represented Australia on the men’s triathlon team and has competed at a semi-professional level in road cycling.
Phil has a Bachelor of Applied Science from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Graduate Diploma of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management. Phil is a guest lecturer at QUT and provides a twice annual lecture to first-year undergraduate Information Technology students on how technology can better enable philanthropy. Phil is also a passionate private aviator.

“Interest in HSC & Company stems from belief in Australia as a society distinguished by cultural integration and better equity than our western peers. However things are changing and the gap between ‘have’ and ‘have not’ is inevitably widening. This creates precondition for growth in corporate and personal philanthropy. HSC & Company has potential to improve efficiency and effectiveness of philanthropy as an industry.” |

Sandy Blackburn-Wright - Brisbane
Advisor
Sandy is the Head of Organisational Mentoring, in Community Engagement at Westpac. Organisational Mentoring is a program that builds the organisational capacity of its not-for-profit and social enterprise partners. Sandy is also a member of the Federal Government's Not-for-Profit Reform Council.
Prior to her current role Sandy was a Human Resources Director at Westpac and PwC and has been coined a successful "intrapreneur", creating new approaches and programs inside a corporate environment. In contrast, Sandy worked in community development in South Africa from 1988 to 2003, during the country's dramatic transition to its first democratic government and the reconstruction program that took place in the years after the elections.
“HSC & Company's work assists corporates to apply a strategic lens over their community investment, in the same way they would over any other part of their business. I'm very excited about the kind of shift that this approach will create as corporates better align their investment to their core strengths and also seek demonstrable social return – better value will be created for the social sector as a result.” |
